damaged pipe

damaged pipe

(OP)
we have a piece of A106 B pipe that has damage on the bevelled end . we are working under B31.3 Normal Service ,
where would i look to find the appropriate code section
that allows  me to 'butter ' the bevelled end to correct the gap before welding the joint ?

thanks

RE: damaged pipe

see B31.3 - 328.5.1 General Requirements for Welding. Welding is permitted for alignment purposes and this approach can be used for weld repairing damaged end preps for fit-up.

RE: damaged pipe

Since there is almost always a piece of pipe somewhere that has to be cut to fit, my preference might be to set the damaged joint aside to be used when I need to trim a piece to fit.

agreed rneil , and generally thats what i would do as well , this piece however is 30 " with a W.T. of 2.25"
so i need to butter it and be able to stand behind the decision. thanks for the help metenger .
