Maximum Fill Rate for Refinery Storage Tanks
Maximum Fill Rate for Refinery Storage Tanks
(OP)
I need to know guidelines for maximum fill rates for spherical and cone roof tanks. I have guidelines based on tank suction pipesize for floating roof tanks but not for others. Please advice standards, API sections or other sources that might have this informations. Thanks!

Evaluate the fill line size and vent size for the tank yourself.
Reasonable liquid velocities for filling is 10-14 ft/second. Tank vents should be as per API-2000
ENG_TIPs is a two way street.... You should not take and never give...
Please tell us what you finally decide and your reasons for your decision.

one common method that is overlooked is via common pump suction lines between tanks. it is not uncommon to gravity feed from one tank to another. this might be via 8 inch lines when the fill line is only a 3" line.
going 10 feet per second in a 3" fill line is something like 225 gpm. but going with 34 feet of head over 100 feet equivalent length in a 8 inch line is 4000 gpm.
