Explode Solids in a Part, like you do Components in an Assembly

Explode Solids in a Part, like you do Components in an Assembly

(OP)
So we use a lot purchased components in our designs.  We download solid models from vendor websites.  Many times the components import into NX 6 as an assembly.  But we order the assembly as a single part so want the NX data as a piece part to match (we don't want to carry around extraeanous components that won't be assigned an internal part number).  So the situation that we run into is that when creating an exploded view for an assembly drawing, we can't explode the individual pieces of the purchased parts that we have converted into piece parts.  Other than copying and moving (formerly transforming) the individual solids in the part file and using reference sets to control how they get displayed, is there another approach to "explode" these components?

RE: Explode Solids in a Part, like you do Components in an Assembly

Not really.

It sounds like the tail is wagging the dog at your company which sadly happens to many of the best and quite a few of the biggest ones.

You could always try creating an an assembly in another file or layout and then import the view in some form or another whether as 2D curves or a view added from the other part.

Theoretically you could move each solid to its own layer add views showing only each layer which you would then position on your sheet to give the impression of an explosion. This is very manual, but if you only have two or three components you might choose to struggle with it.
