The EV release is available for download at http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/subscription/downloads.htm.

Notes:

Performance reporting is turned on for EV releases.

Report critical problems to SolidWorks Technical Support at evis@solidworks.com.

The full version is scheduled 2 weeks after the EV version and is subject to change without notice.

Don't you also have to uninstall the EV patch before applying the actual next service pack (SP1) if additional problems were fixed since EV?

It depends on the SP.  I can only remember one EV SP that had to be uninstalled before installing the official released SP since I have been using SW (2003).

As far as I know you do not need to remove the EV patch. You should be able to install over top of it. However do not upgrade from one major version to another.

Plus turn off your Anti-virus... its a safe bet.
