Howdie.

Just wondering if a Wildfire 5 file can be saved back to a Wildfire 4 version (with any Wildfire 5 stuff removed from it, naturally)?

RE: Wildfire 5 back to Wildfire 4

I doubt it.  Only one version of Pro/E was backward compatable and that was V17/18 years ago.

There is a plugin and config.pro settings to enaable the ATB of Granite One to read newer versions. You lose all parametrics but you can add new ones.

Can Granite One then save back to an earlier version?

RE: Wildfire 5 back to Wildfire 4

No, it lets an older version open the new version.  There are a lot of limitations on what you can do.

But if you loose the parametrics, that's like losing everything for the most part.

What is PTC thinking?

No active maintenance, so I can't check it out.  But it sounds on the surface like it wouldn't have solved my problem.  I REALLY needed to preserve the nature of the data.  So in the end, I ended up just recreating the relatively small amount of work I did in W5, in W4.  But it taught me a valuable lesson that I'm glad I learned without getting any deeper into W5.

RE: Wildfire 5 back to Wildfire 4

I don't know of any 3D CAD system which allows direct conversion to an older version. Most systems have to export a dumb solid (Parasolid, IGES, STEP, etc), which is then imported to the older version.

Does Wildfire not have a "Feature Recognition" module? In SolidWorks, the FR module will interrogate the model and convert (where possible) the dumb solid to editable features (revolves, extrudes, etc).

RE: Wildfire 5 back to Wildfire 4

No, FR is only implemented in SW. Using FR only really works on simplistic shapaes.

No, it has it.  It's called FRT.  But I haven't been able to test it out.

It's actually a free add-on.
