License needed while not running SW?

License needed while not running SW?

License needed while not running SW?

(OP)
I have Solidworks 2009 loaded on my laptop.  I also happen to watch Netflix on my laptop occasionally.  I have found that while watching a movie at home, with no programs other than Netflix running, Solidworks will attempt to load a license file resulting in an annoying warning tone.  This is frustrating in that I have to log on to the company server and start Solidworks to get the warnings to cease.
Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a better solution?

RE: License needed while not running SW?

I have not seen that before... only should log on to SW if you are installing the application or your install did not install properly.

RE: License needed while not running SW?

I'm on SW2008.  There is a SolidWorks Licensing Service.  If you have something similar on your box, you could try stopping it before watching movies.

I am a neophyte when it comes to SW.  I don't know if I have a Licensing Service running, probably.  I don't know anything about Network Monitor, either.  I appreciate both suggestions, but how do I determine if I have them and they are indeed running?  I am much more familiar with NX, and have never had occurances such as this with it.
I guess I could always use my home laptop instead of my work computer though.winky smile

Start/All Programs/SolidWorks 2009/SolidWorks 2009 SPxx/SolidWorks Tools/SolidWorks Network Monitor

Check for setups, maybe uncheck both boxes.

Also could it be trying to connect to PDMWorks (if you have it)?

RE: License needed while not running SW?

Probably the simplest solution is to check whether or not your Dissect Files option is turned on.banghead

This is most likely the cause of your problem. swTaskScheduler Launching to dissect files. In fact I was watching a Movie on NetFlix and launched Task Scheduler to test my theory.
The movie stopped playback and when I refreshed the webpage the movie was there but no sound.

I could bet $20 that the problem occurred at around 11:00pm the default time for file dissection.

To prevent this from happening in the future you can try unchecking the option in
System Options - Search - Dissection
[ ] Schedule dissection daily to automatically disect files in search paths

or change the time to one when you're not using SolidWorks or watching movies.

When the Dissection is run it will launch a mini SolidWorks window just like it does for Conversion and requires the license to do so.

The Dissection option is listed under search because it can show features you've used in your models that can be searched by name. It enables them to be dragged dropped from the SolidWorks search onto the screen similar to Library Features without requiring you to set it up as one.
