Deflection of Bonded Plates
Deflection of Bonded Plates
(OP)
I need to calculate the deflection of a simply supported plate consisting of two panels of different physical properties bonded together under a uniform load. I have the physical properties of the materials but not sure where to start.
Not sure if there is already a post on this topic, i apologize if there is.
Any help would be great.

RE: Deflection of Bonded Plates
Assume the top plate is b x t with modulus of elasticity E. Assume the bottom plate is b x t with modulus of elasticity 0.5E. Transform the bottom plate to an equivalent width of top plate, i.e. 2b. The combined section should behave just the same as an inverted "T" section with modulus E, width b on top and 2b in the bottom.
You can calculate the position of the neutral axis and determine flexural stresses using elementary theory.
