PWHT Blind Flanges

PWHT Blind Flanges

PWHT Blind Flanges

(OP)
I haven't seen a thread that relates to this question.

I am PWHTing a vessel that has 2 manways and 1 4" vent with a blind flange.  They are SA-105N.  Do these blind flanges need to be PWHT'd ? Why/why not ?

Thank you

RE: PWHT Blind Flanges

Before even looking at the code, I am inclined to take the blinds off and PWHT the rest of the vessel.  I see no benefit in heating an A105-N blind flange.

Regards,

SNORGY.

RE: PWHT Blind Flanges

You're stress relieving the welds.

RE: PWHT Blind Flanges

When we stress relieve for service, we throw in the Blinds.

There is usually something welded to the blinds, anyway.

Maybe not required, but the furnace is hot anyway.

RE: PWHT Blind Flanges

It is not required to POST WELD Heat-Treat non-welded parts.

Regards,

Mike

RE: PWHT Blind Flanges

As stated by others, the PWHT is for the benefit of welded joints only.  However, there should be no harm in the blinds being included.
