(OP)
Dear All,

Re ASME IX material grouping, Gr Nos within a P-No are assigned based on tensile strength. Are there specific tensile strength ranges corresponding to Gr-No 1, 2 and so on?

if not, how are the Gr Nos assigned?

Thanks,

RE: Origin of Group Nos in ASME IX

As memory serves, group nos came into being in the 1974 Edition of ASME IX. Grouping was based on increasing tensile properites and required absorbed impact energies relative to the minimum specified tensile strength for use in design per ASME VIII, etc.
