Carrier 23XRV experience

Carrier 23XRV experience

(OP)
We are looking at using Carrier 23XRV variable speed screw chillers for a project and the client is concerned about their reliability/expected life.

The compressors are a relatively new design, and have been on the marker for 4 years or so.  The screw compressor is a tri screw design, which reduced the scroll length with assocaited reduction in bearing loead, and does not have a slide valve liek other screws, with all capacity control achieved using the VSD.  The annual efficiency of these machines is fantastic, around 30% better than a Carrier/York R134a centrifugal and 10% better than a Trane R123 centrifugal.

Any comments on any experience anyone has had, either good or bad, would be appreciated.

RE: Carrier 23XRV experience

I saw one on the test bench before they came o market while in Charlotte. You could not tell it was running, it was that quiet. The compressor is a Howden tri rotor screw.

We do not have any that we service. The price seems to be high for our market. I like the idea its not a oil flooded screw and has no slide valve. The two most problem issues with screws IMO.

On another note, I heard their deal with Howden is on shakey ground as they did not market enough machines to justify the agreement with Howden. So I'm up in the air as to wether this product will go by the wayside like the 19XRT, the turbine assisted centrifugal.

Have you looked into Turbocore or Smardt chillers? There are plenty in the market and have improved dramaticaly over the last 5 years.
