Solving structural plate problem in Ansys

Solving structural plate problem in Ansys

(OP)
Hi,
I just started to use Ansys and wanted to solve a plate problem for my project. My plate is a thin steel plate welded on all 4 sides. Load is uniform load on only 1 quadrant of the plate only. My model in Ansys uses Solid 92 and BC uses fixed all 4 faces of the plate. All my Vonmisese results are good, but as I refine my mesh, my SMX in the middle of one edge keeps growing and does not converge or plateau out. I tried refining it many times, but that SMX just keeps increasing.

Does that mean my plate cannot support this weight I am putting onto the plate or have I set up my model wrongly (Is it realistic to model weld as FIX BC in ansys)?

Many thanks for any advice. Cheers.

RE: Solving structural plate problem in Ansys

Dear

I think your looking at a singularitie. This is caused by the boundary conditions.
Regards
Garry
