Time synchronization in substation

Time synchronization in substation

Time synchronization in substation

(OP)
I have to synchronize time for two relays: SIEMENS 7SD522 and ABB REL670. REL670 can use PPM (Pulse per Minute) signal through an itput but I do not know that 7SD522 can use the same PPM signal. Does 7SD522 also use PPM signal through an input? or It uses PPS (Pulse per Second) signal?

RE: Time synchronization in substation

I believe both these relays have IRIG B time synchronization.  Why not get a GPS clock to use for synchronization?

But to use IRIG-B, I have to order a IRIG card for each relay.

RE: Time synchronization in substation

I suppose you have DIGSI.
Open Settings/Time Synchronization
From Drop-down menu "Sourse of time synchronization" choose "External Impulse via Binary Input"
From Drop-down menu "Pulse via binary input" choose one you have wired.
Press OK, download in the relay and order one beer smile

It may be like this in theory and practice, but in real life it is completely different.

RE: Time synchronization in substation

Synchronization should be by PPM as in the System Manual is mentioned "Minute pulse". Actually I never have used it.

so, can anyone confirm that 7SD522 can accept PPM?

RE: Time synchronization in substation

But why wouldn't you have the IRIG card by default?

RE: Time synchronization in substation

(OP)
When order REL670, I did not order Time synchronization module (order code F for slot X302), so to use IRIG-B, I have to buy a separate IRIG card, open the relay and plug it in.
My order code for 7SD522 is 7SD5221-5DB99-7FK0-L0R-M3A. Does my 7SD522 support IRIG?

RE: Time synchronization in substation

I don't know those relays but can't understand why any numeric relay would even have an option not to include IRIG; should be a given on every relay.
