View Vault contents in eDrawings

(OP)
Hi,
I use the Vault from the task pane (Right side pane). from the vault, I want to know if there is a way to open parts, assemblies & drawings in eDrawings.
Many times I dont want to open files from Vault in Solidworks.
Thanks
BT

RE: View Vault contents in eDrawings

From PDMW Help:

Within SolidWorks Explorer:

Quote:

You can display a SolidWorks eDrawings image of the selected part, assembly, or drawing document.

To display an eDrawings image:

In the left pane, select the document on the File Explorer  tab or in the Vault pane.

Select the View  tab in the right pane.

An eDrawings image of the model appears.

Right-click the image and select commands to manipulate, animate, and print the view.

I have not tried opening directly from the Vault into the eDrawings app.

RE: View Vault contents in eDrawings

Right click on the document in question and select "Document Information". When the new window comes up choose the "View". This will load E-Drawings in teh window and let you view the part. Be patient, it's not the best arrangement in the world and has been known to be quirky with large assemblies and SLDDRW's.

Thanks a lot Joe :)

RE: View Vault contents in eDrawings

Thanks guys. We use features like that often enough here that I rarely think about them and tend to take them for granted until I run across somebody that hasn't used them before.

Generally edrawings would show all the configs on diff tabs. Over here I cant see that.

RE: View Vault contents in eDrawings

If memory serves there was supposed to be a SP that fixed the fact that the tools bars. etc. don't appear in that window, but i've never seen anything come of it, nor have I seen a fix that puts the tool bars back yet.

I use PDMworks through Solidworks Explorer. When I choose a drawing, part or an assembly & click on the "view". I edrawings view is showing up.

But this has no full features of edrawings.
- cant see more than 1 sheet
- cant find the configurations
- cant find the edrawings toolbar

Is there a solution?

RE: View Vault contents in eDrawings

BluTurtle,

This has been a running problem with E-Drawings and the vault for some time, SW has yet to offer any type of fix for it.

BluTurtle,
Maybe this will work for you.
Quick View
1.    Open SolidWorks Explorer
2.    Place this drawing into an empty folder
3.    Find your drawing to view
4.    LMC the drawing
5.    Click the open icon
6.    LMC the orange header, then click the "Get local Copy?" to remove all checks.
7.    Uncheck the "open now" box in the lower left
8.    Now click Open / Check Out
9.    Then open SolidWorks
10.    Click File, Open
11.    Check the "Quick view" box
12.    Find the drawing and click open
