sockets type in electrical substation

sockets type in electrical substation

(OP)
Could any one tell me please,
what type of sockets shall i use in
1. MV switchgear room
2. oil transfromer room
3. battery room
4. LV MDB room

Is it weather proof type or ordinary 1ph 16 A or ordinary 32 A or else?

RE: sockets type in electrical substation

You should probably indicate where in the world you are and what codes govern. Never seen a 16A or 32A recepticle nor met anybody that would call them a socket (a socket is something to screw a lamp into) so my guess is that you aren't in North America. But if you don't say, nobody knows.

Battery room may be classifed as a hazardous area due to hydrogen gas from batteries.  Special electrical equipemtn is required.  It is best to not put any outlets or sockets in the battery room that could cause arcs.

16A and 32A sockets are pretty common in Europe. Check out the BS 4343 (BS EN 60309) standard which defines a series of industrial sockets from 16A up to 125A. Most are reasonably weatherproof in standard form. Does it rain in your substation? ATEX certified versions are available for hazardous areas.

RE: sockets type in electrical substation

Hi.
Usually we install box on the wall, about 2( two)-4(four) boxes per room ( depend on room size)
Box are include only proof sockets,  1-ph 16A ( according to your country standard), one/two 3-ph 16A and/or 25A and/or 32A and/or 63A ( for HV GIS hall), 3-ph socket is four or five pins. 63A socket also installed as single socket
Box is include MCB's per circuit.
As rcwilson saied, not installed in the battery room.

1-ph 16A used for some electrical eq.,3-pf for some gas or oil pums, for crans, etc..

Hope that hepl.
Best Regards.

RE: sockets type in electrical substation

Recently toured the Celilo {500kVAC 3ø to ±500kVDC} converter station in Oregon, and they had duplex NEMA 5-15's in their valve halls.

Busbar - Were the outlets DC or AC?

Sorry- couldn't resist.

Celilo is a unique facility.  Very impressive.

RE: sockets type in electrical substation

Sixty Hertz, I'm pretty sure.  For servicing of the SCR "stacks", each valve hall had its own scissor lift (in a metal cage for normal system operation) that in turn had a DC charger for the lift's battery set.
