lift of supersonic airfoil at subsonic regime

lift of supersonic airfoil at subsonic regime

(OP)
I would like to know how the lift is created for a supersonic airplane before there is a shock wave created at the leading edge of the wings,  For example during take-off and landing.  I am curious to know that and have done no course in transonic and supersonic aerodyanmics!

Thank you.

RE: lift of supersonic airfoil at subsonic regime

Below M=1, the wing will behave as any other wing. Usually there are leading and trailing edge devices to help in the subsonic region.

I believe that in many instances, vortex lift is used.  Forward strakes on F/A-18 create vortices which induce a low pressure region and delay separation over the top to the wing at high angles of attack.

RE: lift of supersonic airfoil at subsonic regime

Hi all,
to my know the lift crated during take-off and landing on civilian supersonic airplane is similar to what butelja said, vortex lift at high angles of attack.  This is the reason, why concorde has such a adjustable cockpit.

cheers
