Totally depends on what you are trying to acheive.

HDPE is a good substitute if you want to make a household bucket, but not so good for a dome for a security camera.

What properties do you need that PC has - transparency, low temp impact, chemical resistance etc.

Thanks cpretty, the main purpose of changing our material is to reduce cost. I'll look at the properties of HDPE, and come out a decision.

Thanks once again for the input.

<scratch head> A Yugo is much cheaper than a Ferrari, but it may not fit the application (racing versus grocery getter).  cp asks a valid question... what properties do you want/need?

If you can ditch the impact strength (for which there is no real substitute for the money), operating temperature, and inherent low flammability, just use crystal styrene, which is about the only "cheap" option.

A clue to the application would be useful to give some more informative replies.

In my opinion the OP has managed to create a question that is both ambiguous and unanswerable. If it is not a student post it certainly has the hallmarks of one.

If you want useful input YOU need to draft a clear and concise question that identifies the required properties, you know, things like expected life, temperature, load, chemicals, abrasion, light transmission, UV light exposure and a few generalities, like it is used in a kitchen, or it contains electronics, it is used outdoors, it is used in contact with swimming pool or spa water etc etc etc.
