Center relief for ball end

Center relief for ball end

I am trying to end a 2 flute helix into a ball end with relief or clearance that would actually cut. Simply using a cut revolve does not give clearance. Any ideas or has anyone made a real ball end?

RE: Center relief for ball end

Hi luzardo,

You will probably need to look at using a cut sweep, or a sweep and then subtracting it.  If you are using 2008 or 2009 you may look at using the Cut Sweep with Solid.  You can then model the grinding wheel and give it a path to cut.  I model indexable cutting tools and the relief and helical flutes are always very difficult.  The last time I tried the Cut Sweep with Solid it still wasn't working the greatest and had some issues.
