step file of stl scan data

step file of stl scan data

Hi, I have imported some scan data in stl format into catia, and am able to save it out as a catpart for use in a packaging exercise but now need to supply it out to quote to non catia users.  Is there anyway to create a step file of the data which is solid surfaces as opposed to just a triangulated wireframe?

RE: step file of stl scan data

It all depends on the data you have in your original stl file. If the stl is a surface model then that is what you will import into Catia. To get solids in your 'saved as' step file you will have to create them in catia first.

I thought that this would be the case, the only option I figured was to use the scan as base data and create the whole part in solid as a new catpart, which would be a little bit of a pain
