designing a pull solenoid 3 lbs. pull

designing a pull solenoid 3 lbs. pull

(OP)
I am looking for a simple pull solenoid of about 1/2 to 5/8 " stroke
to be used on 120 V AC, but

12 V DC is also a possibility.

This solenoid needs to have approximately 3 lbs pulling power for the 1/2" stroke.

It would be nice if the solenoid could be working in a horizontal plane, but this is not a must.

What I don't know is what wire thickness would I need and how much current would I need ? And how may layers of windings and how long does the coil need to be.

How does amp relate to pulling power ?

Any ideas are most welcome................

Richard

RE: designing a pull solenoid 3 lbs. pull

Why are you designing your own from scratch? There are many companies that sell solenoids.
