Top-Down Assembly Relations Problem

Top-Down Assembly Relations Problem

Top-Down Assembly Relations Problem

(OP)
Hello All,

I am designing an assembly using the top down approach.  When I create a new part (Insert Components-->New Part), and choose  an existing face of another part as the plane to sketch on, I cannot add any relations between the new part sketch and the existing geometry.

For example see the attached picture,  I would like to make the two selected lines co-linear, but there are no options for relations in the property manager. If I only select a line in the sketch I have the option to Fix, but that is all.

Have I done something wrong earlier in the assembly?  I'm stuck and in a rush to get this job out!!!

Many thanks in advance!

RE: Top-Down Assembly Relations Problem

Try dragging a corner of the sketch to the vertex of the part.

When I do that it snaps to the vertex, but does not create a relation.  I'm confused!

RE: Top-Down Assembly Relations Problem

There is a button in the upper left that says something like "No External References" when you are in the sketch mode in an assembly.  Make sure that isn't turned on.  Your SS just cuts it off so I can't tell if it is set or not.

I could kiss you!!!  I won't, but I could!

Thankyou very much!

That's good, H1N1 is going around and would hate to get it :D
