Anybody know where I could source some SAE 5160 flatbar. Preferably 1/2"x1" or 3/4"x1".

Where would I find a good reference for heat treating it?

Thanks

RE: SAE 5160

Heat Treater's Guide published by ASM International is a good reference for the heat treating of 5160.

RE: SAE 5160

Dean,

What quantity do you need?  1 foot?  Enough to make 10000 parts that are 2 inches long?  McMaster Carr probably stocks this for small quantities.  Admiral Steel or Thompson Steel are possibilities for larger quantities.

RE: SAE 5160

McMaster Carr carries it if you're looking for just a small amount.

Yes, Mcmaster has it. What's this stuff like to work with? Can it be cut on a bandsaw?

RE: SAE 5160

I have cut it many times on a bandsaw.
