I saw something posted on this from '04, but no replies...

In Table 4.2 of NFPA 820, wastewater pump station wetwells, it lists combustible gas detection for fire protection measures. Does anyone know if this requirement refers to a permanent installation of equipment inside the wetwell?

I am trying not to read too much information, but I have conflicting information. One individual says its a confined space, and you are required to have a personal protection device upon entering, therefore it would be redundant to have gas detection.

I see it as it is needed, simply for the fact that there could be a high level of combustible gas whether someone is there or not.

Thansk for the help.

RE: NFPA 820 and wetwells

not into sewers, but it appears if you look at the headings across the top of the table, and than under each heading it seems to tell you where and when it is needed.

would say if it is asking for gas detection, one reason so you do not blow yourself up!!!!!!!!!
