minimum Cr and Mo content in 13CrMo4-5 plates
minimum Cr and Mo content in 13CrMo4-5 plates
(OP)
Dear all,
does someone have experience with 13CrMo4-5 plates having the following minimum requirements?:
Cr minimum 1%
Mo minimum 0.5%
Is seems that while 1% min. Cr is possible to achieve the 0.5 Mo content not.
The main mills I involved gave me a minimum Mo content of 0.47% but not sure.
They are in the position to obtain 0.45% sure.
Could you please help me on urgent basis?
Many thanks in advance
Kind regards
MOMBU

RE: minimum Cr and Mo content in 13CrMo4-5 plates
In my copy of Stahlschlussel the 13CrMo4-5 steel plate if ordered to ISO standard has the following ranged for chemical composition;
Cr 0.70 to 1.15 % by mass
Mo 0.4-0.6 % by mass
Most international standards provide ranges from min to max for primary alloy elements.
RE: minimum Cr and Mo content in 13CrMo4-5 plates
The steel grade is comparable (not identical!) to ASTM A 387 Grade 12 Class 2.
2) Is your requirement min 1% Cr or min 1,00% Cr? In the first case, the minimum 0,70% of the standard already fulfills the requirement. Same question for Mo. Minimum 0.5% is fulfilled by 0.45%.
3) What is the technical background of these requirements?
4) Cr = 1.00 - 1.15% and Mo = 0.50 - 0.60% is technically possible. The problem will be on the economic side. Steel mill has to target a higher Mo-and Cr-content compared to the usual target chemistry and this will result on higher costs for a complete heat.
