Pole Slip Generators

Pole Slip Generators

Pole Slip Generators

(OP)
I can't get the Pole Slip function to operate on the ABB "REG216" Relay.
Settings as follows
ZA=0.235(Xr+Xs)
ZB=-0.25(-X'd)
ZC=0.135(XT)
Phi=85deg
warn Angle=90deg
Trip angle=90deg
n1=1
n2=3
I would like to prove this element,can someone advise as to what i might be doing wrong.

Thanks

RE: Pole Slip Generators

It just hit me.  The OP's subect line just gave me an idea...

This would be a great invention.  If a generator mechanism could be invented to shift the poles of the generator in the event of a earthwide magnetic pole shift so that equipment would not be polarized and fried.  This would be very useful in remote or unmanned substation situations.

Maybe just an automatic disconnect with a special sensor.  Equipment could be brought on line much quicker after the event.  However, the poles would still have to be manually reset.

But then again...  what do I know...

Sorry.  I'll go back to the corner now...

RE: Pole Slip Generators

Hi.
Firstly, try aks your ABB local center for test procedure of Pole Slip function.

Im not have on this moment documenttion.
But in all cases try help you.
1. You need test-set with current ( fixed frequency) and voltages ( variable frequency).

2. Set Uf=50.2Hz ( 60.2Hz)
3. Set If=50Hz ( 60Hz)

Now , you need check each zone individualy,  with 1-ph,
2- pf and 3-ph injection.

Check of zone ZB, you set ZA, ZC to "zero"
this test called n1 slip with motor slip
Check of zone ZA, you set ZB=0, ZC original setting
this called n2 slip with generation slip
Check of zone ZC, you set ZB=0, ZA original setting-generator slip in zone 2.

After test with 50.2/60.2Hz, you tested system with 49.8/59.8Hz.

Minimum slip test: Z<ZA Uf<50.2/60.2HZ or > 49.8/59.8Hz, function is not tripped.

I don't remember current value calculation for injection, try with test-set, Actually is U/Z, but need take in account all ref. value. Try for 3-pf injection, something like to :
Iinj=UxInxrefI/(ZxUnxrefU).

Good Luck.
