Export STEP to get a single body

Export STEP to get a single body

Export STEP to get a single body

(OP)
We have a file that is made of multiple solid bodies in the file. We are trying to export this file to STEP so we can import it into Inventor as a single entity. Anyone have any tips on what steps we need to accomplish this.

We have tried export to STEP with both selecting the part in memory and from disk.
We tried a Parasolid export and import, then the step with the same results.

RE: Export STEP to get a single body

Probably Step203 instead of STEP214 should do it. You may need to try running through the menu based version in order to change some settings. The alternative may be to simply link the solid bodies from you assembly to create selectable geometry in a single file.

If you really need it to be a SINGLE body, you will have to Unite all of the disjoint solids into a single body BEFORE you export it.

looslib,
Can you import the Step file created in UG into Inventor as an assembly file, and then save the file as an .iam file.  Then start a new Inventor part(.ipt) and use the assembly file(.iam) as a derived component.  Then break the link with the base assembly file, and us the "save as" feature to save the solid as a one entity step file.

I hope this helps.
