Shrinkage issues in Wood building with masonry elev. shaft and stairs

Shrinkage issues in Wood building with masonry elev. shaft and stairs

(OP)
I am designing a 3 story assisted living building with masonry stair & elevator towers.  I want to use these for lateral bracing but will there not be a problem with the wood shrinking and what ever is fastened to the masonry will not shrink?

How has other people handled this?  Having them cut slotted holes does not seem doable.

RE: Shrinkage issues in Wood building with masonry elev. shaft and stairs

To minimize the shrinkage use engineered wood members, such as TJI's, Glulams or Parallams.
