Weld of 6" pipe to 10" pipe - chilled water line under pressure

Weld of 6" pipe to 10" pipe - chilled water line under pressure

(OP)
A fabricator was told to weld a 6" lateral pipe to a 10" main pipe with a fillet weld.  The line is chilled water at 20 psi.  It was tested to 150 psi, and held.

ASME B31.1, pg 75, fig 127.4.8, dwg A (I don't have this if someone could provide it) apparently discusses a CJP weld, not a fillet?

Is it acceptable to leave the fillet weld with subsequent testing?  If not, is there a  fix such that a reinforcing ring or something could be added in a CJP manner to accomplish this?

Any help is much appreciated.

RE: Weld of 6" pipe to 10" pipe - chilled water line under pressure

If this system is a code system IAW B31.1 then the weld must be removed and redone IAW the weld shown in the code, regardless of what tests it passed. The weld called out in the code is a full penetration weld of the branch connection to the header with a backup fillet.

Is there any way to add a full pen weld to a ring or other reinforcement around the existing connection?

RE: Weld of 6" pipe to 10" pipe - chilled water line under pressure

No.  Even when adding reinforcement/saddles, the original branch connection must still be a full pen weld.
