subassemblies: changing configuration of a part of it

subassemblies: changing configuration of a part of it

subassemblies: changing configuration of a part of it

(OP)
Hi guys,

I've noticed a lil problem with SW2009SP4 and subassemblies, but maybe it's my fault, i'm trying to find some new good starting point for my models so i'm doing some testing

After saving an assemblies, i imported it into a new assembly (as subassemblies) and i tried to chande the configuration of a part of it, but i saw that it was not available with rmb.. strange thing n.1!

so i tried changing properties, i have been able to do that but losing some mates (but i think i can solve this)

but.. i imported again the same subassemblies part.. i tried again changing the configuration of it under its properties, and.. it changed the configuration also of the first one! strange thing n.2

i have to suppose that is not the right way to proceed? and that importing a subassembly in an assembly you cannot manage well the configuration of the parts of it?

thanks in advance for the precious suggestions!

Alvise

RE: subassemblies: changing configuration of a part of it

I am a little unclear on your description of your problem.  It sounds like you have an assembly with some sub-assys in it.  While in the main assembly, you are trying to change the configuration of a part in the subassy?  Is that correct?  If so, that is not possible.  You need to go into the subassy and change the part there.  If you need two configurations of the subassy, then by all means do so.

Top Right icon on context toolbar when Left or Right Clicking it is the Component Properties icon and will allow you to change to a different Configuration. Or you can use the Configure Component option that was added in 2008 and you'll get a drop down with the Configuration names from the subassembly you want to change.

RE: subassemblies: changing configuration of a part of it

As ShaggyPE said, you will need to create configurations in the subassembly and control the state of the subassembly components using those configurations.  Then in the parent assemblies, select the desired configuration of the subassembly.
