SolidEdge V20 & Teamcenter 64Bit possible...?
SolidEdge V20 & Teamcenter 64Bit possible...?
(OP)
Hey,
First post here...I have a couple of questions and I wanted to ask some advice...
Firstly we are thinking of upgrading to Dell T7500 workstations in my company and I have been asked whether it is worth the money. Currently we are using 32Bit T5400 dell's and working with extremely large assemblies hence I thought the extra memory would be good. BUT is it possible to run SolidEdge with Teamcenter on a 64Bit system?
Also one of the reasons this has come up is because of how slow it can be for us working with SolidEdge through Teamcenter. For example it can take 10 minutes to open an assembly with approx 400 parts...yet if we open the same assembly outside Teamcenter it takes 30 seconds...however surely this is a network issue and not the workstation performance?
Thanks in advance...

RE: SolidEdge V20 & Teamcenter 64Bit possible...?
In regards to SEEC performance, there have been improvements with both ST & ST2 when it comes to open performance. However there are other factors that will affect SEEC performance.
Are you running 2-tier SEEC? If so you will need to increase your workstation RAM as you are now effectively running to high-end software programs simultaneously -- SE & Teamcenter. If you are running 4-tier, have you configured your 4-tier server for optimum performance? OOTB this may not be so and definitely needs to be reviewed.
Another performance concern is attribute syncing? Are you performing bi-directional syncing of attributes to/from SE/TC? If you can configure your attributes to only be pushed to TC your SEEC performance will improve. If you must have bi-directional syncing then try to minimize these as much as is absolutely necessary.
Also, and you touched on this, is your network optimized for one, large file/data transfers and two, specific Teamcenter related traffic?
A quick performance test is to take your test assy, place it onto your Teamcenter server under a shared non-Teamcenter folder and then try to open it on the local workstation. How long does it take to open? This is the best performance you're going to get without fine tuning your network and/or server. If the assy opens fairly quickly this way then the bottleneck is either your Teamcenter server and/or your workstation [if running 2-tier on the w/s] and not necessarily a network issue. However this isn't necessarily 100% true as Teamcenter traffic is different to regular file traffic, your network still may be a factor. Not much help I know and you will really need to get with your network admin to analyze your network traffic to see if there are any bottlenecks there.
