I have a problem with image maps moving on a part when
loading the assembly. In other words, when I load an
assembly that contains a part with an image map, the
map location is way off. If I open the part, the
map in the assembly moves to the correct location.
Sometimes saving the assembly will make it move off
location again, even if the part is still open. The map
location is always correct in the part file. What's the
deal?

RE: moving image maps

Have you hit Rebuild while in the assembly?  How about a "hard" rebuild of CTRL-Q, in both the part and assembly?  Any difference?

Rebuilding and hard rebuilding don't do anything.  The only way to get the image map to appear correctly in the assembly is to open the part separately.

RE: moving image maps

I'm not sure how to remedy this, as I've had some odd things like this happen in the past (particularly with decals in PhotoWorks moving or rotating).  Most often the cure ended up being a hard rebuild, but neither do I recall having a difference in the assembly once I opened the part--if it was changed/wrong, at least the assembly/part files coincided.

Recently I even had an image jump from one sketch high in the FM tree to another sketch toward the bottom of the tree (!).  Not useful, since I'd used that sketch to create curve geometry and develop all the forms upon which the model was based.  I had to roll back and add the image to the sketch again.  Very odd.

The solution was to use Photoworks to assign the appearance of the face with the image map.  This works fine, but you need to have SW Pro or Premium to have Photoworks.
