Importing ACIS into ABAQUS

Importing ACIS into ABAQUS

Importing ACIS into ABAQUS

(OP)
Hello all,

When I import a part into a *.sat (ACIS SAT) file into ABAQUS CAE 6.9-2, I need to scale the part by 1e-3. Why? mm to m?

The ACIS file was drawn in SolidWorks. In SolidWorks, when I change units  to meters instead of millimeters, I still need to scale the model by 1e-3 when importing it into ABAQUS.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Importing ACIS into ABAQUS

Whenever I have these sorts of issues going between CAD packages I try to import the neutral format back into the original package (i.e. import the SAT into SolidWorks).  SW will also have the same problem as CAE so it's not CAE's fault.  In SW the default SAT units are specified and defaulted to mm.  I hope this helps.

SolidWorks interprets the dimensions in the *.sat right, so I think the problem isn't there. In Abaqus the units cannot be found; it seems like input units are output units. Without scaling factor the beam length is 72 (no units) instead of 0.072 (scaled).

Anyway, thanks for your response.

RE: Importing ACIS into ABAQUS

Have you tried changing the SW output settings?

It works! In SW: Save as\ACIS (*SAT)\OPTIONS\UNIT: METERS!

Thank you!
