Stress and Strain in Patran op2

Stress and Strain in Patran op2

Stress and Strain in Patran op2

(OP)
Hello to everyone,

i'm trying to modify a nastran op2 file containing composite stress results. I can have stress and strain at the same time so to evaluate, for each ply, one of these two results.

What i'm interested in doing is to have, for each ply, the scalar result of the operation stress*strain.

Has anybody of you any idea on how to perform this? I was at the beginning thinking about writing a routine to postprocess separately the op2 file but, searching through the forum, i came across discussions about alters.
Do you think is it possible to use an alter to do what i'm planning?

Thanks a lot in advance for you help.

RE: Stress and Strain in Patran op2

I would say yes, an alter is possible.

BUT, my route would be OP2 and Matlab.  It will take you as long to learn the DMAP language and its strangeness and it will not make plots for you.

But, each element type in the OP2 has an individual stress/strain output.  So it could take some time to code, but worth it!  You get access to much more info. than in Patran, esp. if you are interested in dynamic stress/strain, e.g. complex stresses.
