2006 IBC Table 2306.4.5
2006 IBC Table 2306.4.5
(OP)
This table gives allowable shear values for gypsum board. Are these values for applying the board to one side only?
I cannot find where it states whether it is for one side or for both sides anywhere. It is implied in 2305.3.8.
Thanks

This section refers to "summing" and values being "cumulative". This section wouldn't make any sense if the already tabuluated shear values listed were intended for sheathing on both sides.
I take the gyp shear values meaning applied to a single face.

I will emphasize his statement that both sides have to be the same thickness and nailing. Otherwise, double of the lesser value would have to be used, which would be stupid.

You can sum each side, limited by the lesser of the two sides.
Only note I wanted to add was in residential you are allowed to sum unlike materials together. OSB can be added to gypsum board. I don't really agree with this since the two materials perform differently, but you can do it.
