Hydrocad Stormchamber Wizard
Hydrocad Stormchamber Wizard
(OP)
This is more of an opinion poll than a technical question. I am running Hydrocad 9. I am designing a retention system for a proposed public storage area. The soil type is Bf described as "Beverly gravelly fine silty sand". I used an infiltration rate of 0.3 inch per hour which is probably way too conservative for a soil type described as "excessively drained". My total available storage is 0.183 acre feet of which the hydrograph predicts a peak storage of only 0.111 acre feet. However, under the storage tab it says plug-flow detention requires 0.22 acre feet. I was just wondering how many engineers would go with the larger storage volume. It would add a lot more cost to the owner's project.
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

The storage tab shows storage vs. elevation. There is nothing about detention time in that report.
Detention time is measured in hours, not acre feet.
If you're referring to the pond sizing report, that is intended to provide an initial estimate of the required storage, and should not be used for the final design. For details please see www.hydrocad.net/pondsizing.htm

Your last line there was what I was looking for.
