'Calibration' of penetrameters

'Calibration' of penetrameters

(OP)
Hi,
Could any body explain, what does means "'Calibration' of penetrameters"? How and what to do?
Code Reference?
Prompt reply will be highly appriciated.
Thanks

RE: 'Calibration' of penetrameters

Penetrameters are found in x-ray, these are the things placed on a weld with holes or wires of various sizes to show that the x-ray film has acceptable sensitivity.

Not sure about calibrating them.  Usually manufacturer will supply certificate of conformity.

Unless its something completely different :)

I dont think there is a an ASME code reference for this.

ASTM E-747 and E-1025 (both referenced in ASME V and ASTM E-94) describe design, manufacture and material grouping classification for wire and hole-type Image Quality Indicators (penetrameters), respectively.

As HouseHark says, a certificate provided at time of purchase confirming conformity to these standards should be sufficient evidence for an auditor. Hope to be corrected if I am wrong.

RE: 'Calibration' of penetrameters

All I've ever done with penetrameters if there was any question we would have them measured in our development lab.
This was usually done with a comparator and electronic mikes. The only real problem I've encounter was a radiographer grahiting the holes.
