Can you advise if you can use alterative welding consumable that is qualified for in WPS from another manufacture with the same classification & chemical composition?

RE: Welding consumable

Per ASME IX and AWS D1.1, manufacturers' trade designations are not an essential variable for the same AWS classification.

RE: Welding consumable

But it is different for AWS D1.5, where in most cases you would have to requalify the procedure.

RE: Welding consumable

I would still requalify the procedure even though trade name is not an essential variable. I have been asked to look at alternative sourced MIG wires that have major variations in appearance items such as spatter. I don't know if you are doing this for cost reasons, but use due care.

The reasan i asked is because the lead time quoted for consumable is to long of a lead time.
