How to makexl2007 look/work like 2003?
(OP)
Anybody know how to make excel2007 work/look like excel2003? I'm trying to work on sheet at home (have only 2007 on this computer) that will be used by several people at work, using 2003 (or the one before that). I can't get the colors to work right, all I can get at the stupid "Theme Colors" when I need the standard colors. Menus so that I can find things would be useful too.

Standard colors are available in the Home tab. The second section in the toolbar is font. Click the paintbucket or "A" buttons to get highlight and font colors. Standard excel colors are listed at the bottom.
The old pop-up dialog boxes are also avaliable. Click the small icon with a diagonal arrow in the bottom-right of each section in the toolbar. It may take a little hunting to get the pop-up dialog box you are looking for.
Lastly, make sure you click "Save as" and save in Office 97-2003 format. The default save cannot be read by older versions of Office.
Hope that helps. Good Luck.

I just don't understand why MS can't let the user decide how to use the program rather than forcing change for the sake of change. excel2003 worked just fine. The two improvements (but I can't remember what they were) in 2007 just don't justify trashing all that came before.

It is a few mouse clicks, but if you need the entire set of standard colors from 2003. In the Home tab click the "A" button (for font color). Then click "more colors". A pop-up window should appear with a color wheel of all the "standard" 2003 colors.

At least, for Office, there's some rationale; the same cannot be said for other programs converted to that format.
