Assigned Mass

Assigned Mass

Assigned Mass

(OP)
I downloaded a fastener from Mcmaster.com. When I open it seperately, its shows its weight as 0. I noticed it had a assigned mass.

When I check the box for the assigned mass, it shows up.

Has anyone here faced this before? Is it OK to use this assigned mass for calculation?

Thx
BT

RE: Assigned Mass

I would not use the assigned mass unless you can verify it is correct.

Firstly, change the number of decimal places in the Mass Properties options to see if the 'weight' is just low for the units being used.

Calculate the mass using the volume from the model and the density of material being used, and compare results.

RE: Assigned Mass

I do this a lot, usually with electronic components and PCB assemblies.

However, in custom properties where the mass field is populated, in my template I also have a field "MassDescribed" and populate it accordingly.  In subsequent BOM prints it's always there as a reminder: calculated or entered a real figure.
