How to make Ellipsoid type model in ABAQUS

How to make Ellipsoid type model in ABAQUS

How to make Ellipsoid type model in ABAQUS

(OP)
Dear all,

For my research, I needed to make some 3d ellipsoid type model and analyze for different conditions.

I have the radii available in 2 planes, XY and YZ. I need to make surface with these two radii.

Sweep/extrude option doesn't work as it needs a solid sketch in XY plane and sweep path is defined in XZ plane (NOT in YZ PLANE).

1. I am wondering whether it is possible to make surface with two radii in Abaqus ? if yes how?

2. Do I look for CAD modeling software ProE/Catia to model the same ?

I have an idea of making sphere and then all x-coordinates of the sphere to be extended in X-direction sothat it matches to one radius, similarly in z-direction to get another radius.

3. My question is, whether this can be done on the GUI or not?
I tried to do this, but scaling option is available for whole object but not in individual x or y or z directions in GUI. or is there any other way to do this in input file or with python script ?

If you imagine the 3D picture of my object, it appears to be a part of ellipsoid-one radius in plane and other radius in other plane. Please find an attached figure !

Any reply would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks in advance !

regards
Krishna

RE: How to make Ellipsoid type model in ABAQUS

Create a 3D defomrable part with revolution and draw an ellipse in the sketch, trimmed alogn the mid line. You end up with an elliptic shape like an english rugby ball, or an american football.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply ! but....

If revolved the elliptical sketch, we get an ellipsoid, but the radius in XY and YZ planes would be same, i.e same elliptical minor and major axes.(in xz plane we can see the circle)

I needed two different radii in two different planes (xy and yz).

the above revolution does not solve my problem..

The actual figure can be visualized in attached file !

If would be really greatful if some one reply !

Thanking u in advance

RE: How to make Ellipsoid type model in ABAQUS

I would use a CAD package to do this.  It might be possible in CAE however once I get past lines and arcs I head to SolidWorks.  I hope this helps.
