Dimensioning to hidden lines in context

Dimensioning to hidden lines in context

Dimensioning to hidden lines in context

(OP)
I'm sure there is an obvious answer to this, but I can't find it.

I have an assembly with a base plate and several vertical plates.  I positioned the vertical plates, and now I want to create the cbored holes in the base plate to mount the vertical plates.

I selected the part, then Edit Part, then the bottom of the base plate, then Hole Wizard, and I placed the points for the holes, but did not dimension or constrain them.  From the bottom of the base plate (the side I want the cbores on) I can see the hidden edges of the vertical plates that I want to dimension to, but I am not allowed to dimension to them.  If I flip the assembly so I can see the edges directly, then I can dimension to them, but that is awkward.

Is there a way to dimension to the hidden lines?

Thanks

In Options, check the Display/Selection options and see if you have something like "Select Hidden Edges in HLR/Shaded" and see if finding that option and selecting it helps (might be annoying later when not trying to do this, however).

But the way I do it is to convert the edges of the stuff you're referring to within the part (so the edges are within a sketch in your "base plate" part).  This helps for future edits (since there are always future edits) where you can see what you've got later within the part file and don't have to go back to the assembly to see what is what.

Theophilus,

Thanks for the suggestion.  The HLR/shaded option did not work, but the wireframe/HLV did.

I'm all set.
