Scaling parts in a drawing
Scaling parts in a drawing
(OP)
I'm running SolidWorks 2007
I'm working on a big assembly drawing with an exploded view to show the locations of the parts. The overall assembly is very large and is scaled at 1:20 on a D size paper. Some of the parts within the drawing are as small as 1in and I would like to scale these parts up within the drawing to better show the detail. If need be I will insert these parts as separate drawings and scale them, but I would like to know if there is a way to scale individual components within the same drawing view.
Thank you for your help.

The best way, IMO, is to create another view showing the part(s) at the scale you need..

Scaling differently within a view for different components is not per any standards, and is also misleading. Additional detailed view(s) is the way to go.
RE: Scaling parts in a drawing
I know this isn't standard, but it's not critical that it is. There will be no dimensions to the drawing, only showing where specific parts are located. The drawing is for a boat being developed for ONR, and the parts are various inserts such as 10-24UNC threaded inserts which are to be molded in (yes, the boat is plastic). The boat is 7 meters (24ft) and the inserts are no larger than 3in, hence the scaling problem. Even on a D size print, the inserts appear as little more than dots. I have previously done it where I add a balloon note to the inserts, and place a scaled up view of each insert under the BOM, but the molder has requested that the inserts be scaled up on the drawing to save time from having to reference the BOM. Again there are no dimensions to the drawing, and the scale itself doesn't matter, it's only to show the locations of the inserts.
Thank you again for any help.

Detailed views solve your problem. Why do not you use them?
