DFDE powered generators at ratings above 15MW

DFDE powered generators at ratings above 15MW

(OP)
Are the DFDE powered generators at sizes above 15MW used!
Any experiences? (DFDE= dual fuel diesel engines)
Thanks.

RE: DFDE powered generators at ratings above 15MW

Wartsila's biggest dual-fuel engine is good for about 16MW electrical output from the generator, 'dual' in this case being LFO and HFO. They might have a bigger one by now, but that was last time I bothered looking. It's likely that Hyundai have a big dual-fuel engine too but I'm not certain.

RE: DFDE powered generators at ratings above 15MW

Dual fuel requirements are common on  gasturbine power plants. For remote locations the gas pressure is often to low to run the machines or unavailable at start up, so duel fuel is specified for a few machines which are used for start up. At some locations you can get a lower gas rate if you allow interruptions, so dual fuel is used on all machines in that case.
