Need help with NFPA 31

Need help with NFPA 31

Need help with NFPA 31

(OP)
Hello all,

I have a small favor to ask and am hoping someone here may be able to help me out...

I'm planning to construct a three sided enclosure around my home oil furnace. I've reviewed the clearance requirements from the installation manual, but I'd like to try to reduce them. In the manual it states "For reduced clearances to combustible material, protection must be provided as described in the ANSI/NFPA 31 standard". I looked online but the standard is only available for purchase.

Can anyone clue me in as to what the requirement is for reduced clearance? Are there shielding or insulating requirements? The use of fire retardants?

Thanks in advance,
Tim
