Selection Issue

Selection Issue

Selection Issue

(OP)
I am having an issue with selecting an edge when it is inside/behind another solid model.  For example, if a screw is placed too far down into the mating part, I can't select the center of the bottom edge of the screw head in order to move it since it sits below the surface and in the mating solid. Is there a setting to change this?

RE: Selection Issue

I am curious about the answer to this too. In the past (pre NX4) UG would ALWAYS select the element that was farthest away which I found to be a rather default. But now if one is working in shaded mode it does not seem to be possible to select hidden elements at all. So in this situation I switch to some sort of wire frame. personally I would like the ability to select hidden elements as before but the priority should be front to back.

RE: Selection Issue

There is a new option which is available on the Selection Bar...

...which controls whether you are allowed to select hidden curves/edges.  When Toggled ON (as shown above) you are able to select 'thru' the shaded image and select 'hidden' curves.  When toggled OFF, only visible curves/edges are allowed to be selected.  If this item is not visible on your Selection Bar, you can use Customize to turn it on.

Thanks!

RE: Selection Issue

Works like a charm!

RE: Selection Issue

Amazing.  I just came to the forum to ask this very question and it was the first thread in the list.  Simply amazing.

RE: Selection Issue

I know that it's supposed to work, but when I try to window select while shaded (with "Allow Selection of Hidden Wireframe" toggled on), some bodies are usually left behind, and I end up going back to wireframe for expediency.
As noted before, I didn't have this problem pre-NX4.
Is that toggle only intended for curves and edges as it is titled, or for any type of entity?

RE: Selection Issue

Yes, only curves and edges, and as for the area select, that's a different issue altogether.  But to cover perhaps some of your needs, there is another new toggle added to the Selection Bar titled 'Allow Multi-select of Hidden Faces'.
