Overstrength factor and concrete
Overstrength factor and concrete
(OP)
I've read several of the topics on the overstrength factor, but they mostly refer to steel (brittle bolted connections vs ductile connections).
How about if I am designing a concrete moment frame for gravity and seismic forces? Overall I divide my seismic forces by R. Given those forces, I can straightaway design, say, the midspan using those seismic forces? For connections, I multiply the connection seismic forces by Omega (to almost negate the R factor)? Do I only need to multiply by Omega for special and intermediate moment frames?
