Conference? What do you suggest?

Conference? What do you suggest?

Conference? What do you suggest?

(OP)
Hi,

My supervisor asked me to participate in a Conference, Technical Seminar or Workshop or Training Course (2-3 days). If you want to suggest a Conference to your colleague who works as a fatigue and finite element analyst then what is your suggestion?

FYI, I am working in Canada, so I guess that any suggestion in USA or Canada would be acceptable to finance department.

By the way, I am working for more than 10 years in these fields, but I believe that there are still a lot of things to learn. I work on the contact simulations, fatigue analysis, mostly 3D solid structures ...

Thanks,
A.Y.

RE: Conference? What do you suggest?

You're in aerospace?  What about a damage tolerance course from AFGROW.  Not sure about NAFEMS.

RE: Conference? What do you suggest?

I would go to a conference or training specific to your solver.  I have been to Abaqus's conference and to some of their training courses and have found them extremely valuable.  I hope this helps.

RE: Conference? What do you suggest?

The main FE providers usually have conferences around the world. If you're in Canada then I'd suggest a conference in Vienna. Just say it's east of Chicago.

or west of Vancouver !

RE: Conference? What do you suggest?

I'd say a fatigue course/conference is probably the first stop for an experienced FEAer who hasn't done one. If only to reveal how untrustworthy fatigue models are.

RE: Conference? What do you suggest?

ABAQUS courses are really good.

Conferences are not very good if you really want to learn something.

I think the AFGROW suggestion is good. I had to use this on JSF and it was a real eye opener. A course on fracture mechanics would have been better than learning on the job.

RE: Conference? What do you suggest?

One option I'm considering is to bring these courses to Canada and have a local college host them.

RE: Conference? What do you suggest?

What about a nonfea conference, but major conference in your field that would have a technical subgroup that uses fea or other computational methods?  Heck, even if it didn't have a computational subgroup, just immersing yourself in the problems of the industry and seeing what is being attempted to solve them may provide you with insight when applying your fea magic, or a problem that may benefit from skillfully applied fea.
