Analysis of Carbon Fiber Parts

Analysis of Carbon Fiber Parts

Analysis of Carbon Fiber Parts

(OP)
Hello everyone,

Can I get some advice on analyzing carbon fiber parts?  How would you model the anisotropic behavior of such material?  How would you model the properties of a certain weave pattern over another?

Also, what FEA program would you use to do this sort of analysis?

Thank you very much,
Horace

RE: Analysis of Carbon Fiber Parts

Horace,
You need to define the material directions and have anisotropic material properties.

Most high end FE packages can handle composite parts.  My preference is Abaqus however I have used MSC's suite's.  Add-ons like fibersim will allow a more accurate fiber direction in complex geometries.  I hope this helps.
