AMBIENT HUMIDITY CONTROL IN OPEN FREEZERS RETAIL AREA

AMBIENT HUMIDITY CONTROL IN OPEN FREEZERS RETAIL AREA

(OP)
Hello friends. I mostly do refrigeration work and I need some help in regards to a/c system design.
I´ve noticed that in many supermarkets, there are no air ducts or registers in the medium/low temperature refrigerated cases section. I guess that the cold air escaping out of the cases keeps the surroundings properly cooled and there is no need for cooling a/c. But if I try to apply this same concept for a small frozen foods retail store with several open aisle type freezers, again obtaining comfort ambient temperature might not be a problem  even without cooling a/c, but what about humidity control? If there is no dehumidification, frost accumulation in the freezer´s evaporators could be excesive, leading to poor equipment performance. How do you a/c designers tackle such a situation? Any comments welcomed.

RE: AMBIENT HUMIDITY CONTROL IN OPEN FREEZERS RETAIL AREA

What happens with this equipment is that after some time the refrigerant system will reverse and heat the cooling coils for a short period and that will defrost the coil adn the water will drain to a drain point.
See web site www.russelcoil.com for details of freezers and how it works. some good information there.
