Why did Siemens port NX to Linux and MacOS?   Is anybody using these platforms?

RE: why Linux, MacOS

MacOS is an obvious choice, since one of McDD/EDS/UGS/EDS/Siemens long time customers is none other than Apple Computers. Apple has been using UG/NX on Unix boxes for about 17 years at least that I can remember, maybe longer.

As for Linux, it overcomes the per process limitations that Windows imposes on your applications. It was also an easy port since NX already ran on Unix boxes. There area lot of smaller customers who prefer the Linux OS for cost reasons over Windows.

When I purchased one of the first microVAX/GPX workstations from McDD, the 2 seats, hardware and software, was just under $100K.  While the software hasn't really changed in price in 22 years, the hardware and software functionality certainly has.
