Molding Warpage Compensation

Molding Warpage Compensation

Molding Warpage Compensation

(OP)
Does anyone have any suggestions for adding reverse warp to a part to compensate for anticipated molding warpage? I am using NX5. Suggestions of additional software would not be unwelcome. My parts are rather elaborate often in excess of 3000 features, including all artifacts of the mold.

RE: Molding Warpage Compensation

Our company uses moldflow with warp module.  Moldflow guy outputs an stl file with warp compensation and I import it into UG to modify the part.  It sounds kinda simple but there is a lot of approximation involve.

RE: Molding Warpage Compensation

Have a look at the Global shaping function. performing simple deformations is its forte, and we have had success with many moulded product that need to be overcrowned.

Berzerk, how do you mean you use the stl file to modify the UG file? Do you use it as a guide and change the UG model or something else?

RE: Molding Warpage Compensation

That's how we use the stl.  As a guide when modifying the actual solid geometry.

RE: Molding Warpage Compensation

So what you do is create a something like a flat sheet and one which by sectional comparison between STL and Original you add curvature representing the warpage then you use those two sheets and your inputs to global shaping by surface. You can also try using global shaping by function in some cases but have had at least as many successful experiences using the surfaces.
